Paradox of Today is an installation centered around the form of the Serbian Orthodox Christian cross. Printed across its aluminium surface is a collage combining gay pornographic imagery, photographs documenting police presence during the 2010 and 2022 Belgrade Pride protests, and images of Christian groups protesting EuroPride in Belgrade. Unified through a saturated red overlay associated with Orthodox iconography, the images are presented without hierarchy.

The use of halftone and pixelated imagery disrupts immediate legibility. From a distance, the work appears abstract and devotional. Only through closer inspection do the underlying images begin to emerge. Rather than producing shock, the work focuses on the delayed moment of recognition, when the viewer realizes they have already spent time looking at the cross before fully understanding what it contains.

The installation reflects the coexistence of religion, queerness, protest, and sexuality within the same lived experience. These images are not brought together to create contradiction, but to reveal tensions that already exist socially, culturally, and personally. By allowing them to occupy the same surface, the work exposes the structures that have historically insisted they remain separate.
